OggWatch™

OggWatch™ is a project sponsored by Twisted Lincoln, Inc.™ that attempts to catalog websites, products and organizations that make use of files that use the Ogg container format

It is our belief that supporting the widespread use of free fomats such as Ogg Vorbis or Ogg Theora require a dedicated effort.  Unfortunately, it is often difficult to convince others of the importance of using free formats without being able to point to others who have successfully done so.  That's where this site comes in.

Not only does OggWatch™ provide proof that the Ogg format has a variety of productive uses, but it also allows end-users a centerallized location to search for such content.  For users of GNU/Linux, for example, it is especially important to find sources of media that use free, open formats, as the "standard" proprietary file types that overrun the market are often unsupported (or illegal) on Free Software platforms.

Complementary Information

A listing of portable digital audio players that support Ogg Vorbis can be found on the Xiph.org Wiki:  Portable Players for Vorbis

The same wiki also provides a listing of other hardware devices such as set-top boxes for home theaters and car audio systems:  Static Players for Vorbis

We plan to integrate some of this information into OggWatch in the coming months.  We'll also be doing some hands-on hardware reviews of some of these devices.  Check back soon!
